I started by experimenting with old vinyl records my father had given me, shaping them into catch-all trays. I felt I had to keep searching for something less anonymous, so I contacted the company that makes vinyl records and asked for production scraps. In the end, though, I realised recycled materials would never satisfy me, and I began making my own discs: vinyl melts at low temperatures, which made it easy to experiment with. My aim was never to give a second life to an object past its time, and I also felt the need to break away from music altogether, since it would only have corrupted the finished piece. That is how I arrived at polycarbonate, giving it different forms and uprooting it from music. I came to the conclusion that an idea is a process, and part of that process is getting lost.
